Today we're highlighting one of our amazing Sprinkles racers who just got back from racing in Badlands 2024. Sophia Cao is one of our phenomenally talented racers who took on an unsupported ultra-endurance gravel race, @badlandscc in the southern deserts of Spain. Sophia secured an entry last minute and quickly prepared as best as possible for the 800km, 16,000m epic.
We were hooked, following along Sophia's dot as she took on the mountainous course, cheering her on from afar and following the days as closely as we could. We could only begin to imagine what she was experiencing and going through, both the incredible highs and lows:
"Everyone is suffering so much, in so many different ways, and the kinship you feel with each other is so intense. The way people help each other on the course is so inspiring. It’s absolutely one of the most beautiful parts of this experience." -- @sophopolis
Over four hundred miles and a few days in, Sophia made a tough decision to DNF after feeling she couldn't safely continue. We're so thankful to have Soph back safely in San Francisco and hearing her first hand account of the epic race.
"I received a tremendous amount of support before, during, and after this race, and it meant the world to me. To have people loan me gear, provide critically useful advice, follow me on the course, and send me words of encouragement (and ultimately, consolation) made a world of difference to me and is one of the things I appreciate most about this experience. Thank you to all who were a part of that." -- @sophopolis
Sophia truly brought Super Sprinkles spirit to the gravel of Spain, and we're fortunate to have her on our team! We look forward to the next local rides and races and possibly following along next year as Soph takes on the Spanish deserts again, bolstered by her experience!
